I am joining the Japanese Literature Challenge 3 hosted by Dolce Bellezza. http://dolcebellezza.wordpress.com/
The Rules:
This year, all you have to do is read one work of Japanese origin. It can be literature of course, but don’t feel confined to that. You may choose to read poetry, biographies, short stories or even manga. If you are willing to read one such piece, you’ve met the challenge. If you read more, all the better.
I have set the time frame between July 30, 2009 and January 30, 2010. Here is the website where you can link your reviews. http://www.japlit3challenge.blogspot.com/
By the way there are some prizes and to see a list visit Dolce Bellezza's site.
Brittanie:
I read The Housekeeper and The Professor by Yoko Ogawa and loved it. So I decided next time Dolce Bellezza hosted the Japanese Reading challenge I would join and hopefully find more great books. :)
I have no idea what I am going to read. I am taking suggestions if any one has any. If you would like to participate go to http://dolcebellezza.wordpress.com/

I'm so glad you're joining, Brittanie. By looking at other's sites, I've found a lot of suggestions that look appealing. Of course, you can never go wrong with Murakami in my opinion!
Brittanie,
I think you would love The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. It's a very sweet little love story.
Have you read An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell?
Shusaku Endo is a Christian Japanese author....his novel Silence about persecution in Japan is one of my all time favorites.
Also Shirokami Pass is another great book about Christians in Japan that sort of made me sob. :)
