Jane of Lantern Hill by L. M. Montgomery (Review)

Book Summary:
For as long as she could remember, Jane Victoria Stuart and her mother, Robin, lived with her grandmother in a dreary mansion in Toronto. Jane always believed her father was dead--until she accidentally learned he was alive and well and living on Prince Edward Island. When Jane spends the summer at his cottage on Lantern Hill, doing all the wonderful things Grandmother deems unladylike, she dares to dream that there could be such a house back in Toronto...a house where she, Mother, and Father could live together without Grandmother directing their lives--a house that could be called home.

My Review:
I have read most of L. M. Montgomery's fiction works and at least liked all of them. My favorite of course is the Anne of Green Gables series. I think this is the last of her full length works I have not read. :(

Anyway what I loved about this book are the vivid descriptions. I felt like I was really in Canada. First in grandmother's dreary house and then in the wonderful PEI. The characters and plot are new and interesting. It flows well and is well written. The whole book was just lovely. One of my favorite reads for January. Definitely Recommended. :)

Kilmeny of the Orchard by L. M. Montgomery

The first paragraph of Kilmeny of the Orchard:

The sunshine of a day in early spring, honey pale and honeysweet, was showering over the red brick buildings of QueensleaCollege and the grounds about them, throwing through the bare, budding maples and elms, delicate, evasive etchings of gold andbrown on the paths, and coaxing into life the daffodils that werepeering greenly and perkily up under the windows of the co-eds'dressing-room.
Book Summary:
Twenty-four-year-old Eric Marshall agrees to take a teaching job on Prince Edward Island only as a favor to one of his friends--he has no intention of staying any longer than the two months he has promised. However, everything changes when he falls in love a beautiful mute girl named Kilmeny Gordon. Will Eric be able to win Kilmeny's love?
My Review: This book features the same lyrical language as in other L. M. Montgomery books. I love her descriptions of nature and people too. She had a gift for creating memorable characters. Anne of Green Gables series is one of my all time favorite ever. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of L.M. Montgomery's books. :)

The Sunday Salon.com

* I am currently rereading the Anne of Green Gables series in addition to my other reading obligations.
*This is one of my favorite series of all time.
*It gets beat out only by Dee Henderson's O'Malley series.
* I forgot how much I love the descriptions of the environment and the people.
* I would love to go visit Prince Edward Island and see it for my myself one day.
* L. M. Montgomery was a talented author who created memorable characters and some are quite characters too. I have read some of her other books with different characters too.
* More on L. M. Montgomery and Anne later.
