Kissed by a Cowboy by Debra Clopton (Review)

  • Series: A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance
  • Paperback: 320 pages
  • Publisher: Thomas Nelson (February 9, 2016)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1401690533

  • Cassidy was looking for a home and a place to belong . . . not for a cowboy to steal her heart.

Having lived through her parents’ endless string of “matrimonial bliss gone wrong,” Cassidy Starr knows when the odds are not in her favor. Divorced and humiliated, her faith on rocky ground, Cassidy is through with love. She’s been bucked o_ that horse far too many times. Instead, she returns to Wishing Springs, Texas, and the rundown farm she’s inherited from her great aunt Roxie. She’ll reopen the strawberry farm and a bed & breakfast and follow in her aunt’s footsteps, remaining forever-independent, happy . . . and single.

Rancher Jarrod Monahan’s hands are full running the ranch, looking after his ailing grandfather, and chasing down a group of rustlers on the loose. He’s pushed his longing for a family to the bottom of his list of priorities. Besides, he was in love once but ran scared and lost his shot at happiness. But suddenly, the biggest regret of his life has moved in next door with a wounded heart, determined to become a spinster . . . and that’s a challenge that Jarrod can’t pass up.

Jarrod sets his mind to breaking down the walls around Cassidy’s stubborn heart. How can he show her that a cowboy’s kiss lasts forever? For the good folks of Wishing Springs, falling in love has never been so much fun to witness.

    My Review:

This was a great Christian contemporary romance book. It is the third in the series A Four of Hearts Ranch. The characters are mostly the same. New in this book is Cassidy Starr who has come home to Wishing Springs, Texas, to rebuild her life after a bad divorce. The other previous Monahan couples stories continue in the background of this book so read in order if that kind of thing bothers you. All the stories were good. So the main focus of this book is Jarrod Monahan, the oldest of the three men. When Cassidy was growing up she would go visit at her Aunt Roxie's house which was next to Jarrod's family ranch in Texas. They shared a kiss as teenagers then he went off to Montana. When he came back she had married another guy who turned out to be awful. She got a divorce and decided to come back to her happy place, Aunt Roxie's house. Unfortunately her aunt is deceased but Cassidy is determined to start a bed and breakfast and re start her aunt's strawberry farm. When she meets up with Jarrod again the sparks fly. I love this author for her witty, funny, and unique dialogue. The plot and characters are unique and well written. The secondary plot in all three books is resolved in this one between Rand and Pebble. I recommend this book and the whole series.

Counting on a Cowboy by Debra Clopton (Review)

  • Series: A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance (Book 2)
  • Paperback: 320 pages
  • Publisher: Thomas Nelson (August 11, 2015)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1401690519

  • After losing everything she held dear, Abby never wants to love again. But a certain cowboy may just spur her to wonder if love might be worth the risk.

Running from a past that haunts her, Abby Knightly is drawn to the cozy town of Wishing Springs, Texas. Maybe this small town could offer hope and healing and a future for Abby . . . if she’s brave enough to reach out and take it by the reins.

Bo Monahan isn’t interested in the new romantic destination his little town has become—or the women who might be looking at him like he’s their next Mr. Right. Between taking care of his Pops and his growing stirrup business, he isn’t looking for serious romantic commitments. But when the infant son he never knew about shows up at his doorstep, his world is turned upside down.
This confirmed bachelor might not think he needs a wife, but he sure needs help. Even Abby can see that, and despite her best efforts to keep her distance, she can’t help but be drawn to this new father-son duo. As Abby throws herself into helping Bo navigate fatherhood, hope sparks between them, revealing that maybe, just maybe, they can navigate their dark pasts and emerge together into a future as bright as the Texas sun itself.

    My Review:

This is the second book in the Four of Hearts Ranch Romance series. Counting on a Cowboy can stand alone but all the characters are the same except for Abby who is new in town. The main focus of this book is on Abby and Bo. Bo Monahan is one of the co owners of the Four of Hearts Ranch and has a side business of making stirrups. Abby meets him on her first day in town by accident. When she learns Bo has a baby and it was left at his doorstep, she feels like she needs to step in and help the clueless cowboy. This was supposed to be an inspirational romance book. I felt a little let down by the lack of spiritual development and content in the book overall. The secondary characters were good and made the book interesting. Abby and Bo had sparks from the beginning. Abby had serious things in her past she needed to move beyond before she could start a relationship with Bo though. The conclusion was satisfying and fit the book. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

Betting on Hope by Debra Clopton (Review)

    • Series: A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance (Book 1)
    • Paperback: 320 pages
    • Publisher: Thomas Nelson (February 24, 2015)
    • ISBN-13: 978-1401690496

    One clutzy advice columnist.
    One champion cowboy.
And an entire small town rooting for love.
Advice columnist Maggie Hope never dreamed she’d be shaking hands with champion horse trainer Tru Monahan over a high-stakes bet, especially one that involves horses. And saddles. And everything else a city girl like Maggie feels uncomfortable around. But after filling in for a coworker and interviewing the handsome cowboy, she finds herself doing just that. Anything to save her advice column.
Despite Maggie’s two left feet, Tru is bound and determined to bring out her inner cowgirl by teaching her to ride a cutting horse, trained to separate cattle from the rest of the herd. While her riding improves, their attraction intensifies, but Tru knows he can never let her into his heart—for her own good.
In Wishing Springs, a community full of meddling but well-meaning townsfolk, Maggie discovers the home she’s always longed for. But she’s holding something back—a secret that could destroy her reputation and any future she’s ever hoped for with the cowboy she might trust love.

    My Review:

I enjoyed reading this sweet Christian romance book. I have read the author's Mule Hollow Love Inspired series too. This is the first book in a new series Four of Hearts Romance. Although Maggie and Tru are the two main characters there were many good supporting characters. At times it seemed like they wanted to take over the story. Maggie has some serious issues she needs to work through from her past. It takes a lot of the book for her to start trusting Tru. The romance develops slow but steady between them. In the beginning it was based on looks apparently he is good looking. But throughout the book she sees another side of him. Tru thinks she is a city girl who's a little crazy but in the end he admires her.  Wishing Springs seems like a great little Texas town full of "real" characters like Clara Lynn and Reba. There were also the twin men mayors who would switch out. The book had funny moments for sure. The characters and plot were well developed and interesting. This series is  contemporary with a small town Western twist. I look forward to the next book in the series and going back to Wishing Springs. Recommended. :)

    My Review:
I loved this latest installment in the Men of Mule Hollow series by Debra Clopton. She is one of my favorite authors. I look forward to each book set in Mule Hollow, Texas. Her characters and plot are always interesting and unique. Her books are full of life and some lol moments even with some more serious topics. I had never heard of rodeo preachers before this series. In this book Chance who was a rodeo preacher has come home to heal after losing a bull rider he had been counseling. Lynn is a single mom with two boys who left an abusive situation years ago but still struggles with trust issues. Chance and Lynn are thrown together by the town matchmakers and the sparks fly. These are sweet charming Christian romance books. I love the characters found in Mule Hollow. There are appearances in each book from previous characters but you can start reading anywhere. Steeple Hill is republishing the first two books in this series soon. I definitely recommend this series. :)
